Scripture Reading: Luke1:11-13&18, 30-31&34-37
“11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13 But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 18 And Zacharias said to the angel, "How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years." 30 Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 34 Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?" 35 And the angel answered and said to her,"The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible." NKJV.
Think about what you are facing or what you are going through, the theme of today says for with God nothing is impossible. This needs people who stand firm, people who put their trust only in Christ. They will be the ones to testify that indeed with God nothing is impossible. Let me brief you a little about this man Luke, I did a research about him to find out why he was always writing about sickness, the answer is that Luke was a doctor.
Colossians 4:13-14, NKJV
“13 For I bear him witness that he has a great zeal for you, and those who are in Laodicea, and those in Hierapolis. 14 Luke the beloved physician and Demas greet you.”
Luke 1:5-6 NKJV
“5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.”
These two were righteous before God but there was something that they were lacking. They had no child. God realised what they were lacking and He sent forth His angel Gabriel to Zechariah. The angel told them that the Lord had heard their prayers. It did not matter how old were they. God did not care about their ages but He heard their prayer. When Zachariah was told that he would bear a child he did not understand how it was going to be possible because he was already of advanced age. He did not think in their state they would ever be able to reproduce children. Zachariah did not believe it because physically it was not possible for him and his wife to have a child at that time. He was bound to react that way because he was living in this sinful world that we are living in. Zachariah had so many questions as to how they would be able to have a child at their age.
The story continues when the angel goes further to approach Virgin Mary and told her that she was going to fall pregnant and that she would bear a child, which child she was to name Jesus. In this world that we are living in, it sounds impossible that a person can have a child without indulging in sexual intercourse. Mary found it impossible that indeed she would fall pregnant without having sex with Joseph her fiancé.
The angel went to Joseph and told him that his wife was pregnant and she had been impregnated by the Holy Spirit. The theme says for with God nothing is impossible. The bible says for there is nothing impossible with God, it doesn’t matter what the world says, it doesn’t matter what people have said about your situation or what you are going through but with God nothing is impossible. No matter how big your problem might look like, it doesn’t matter what you are suffering from, the word of God is saying that there is nothing which is impossible with God, and you just have to believe when God says everything is possible.
Zachariah and his wife did not believe even though they were righteous and blameless and were considered to be powerful Christians. Zechariah did not have faith.
God’s due time does not pass by, it does not matter how long you have been praying
If Zachariah and his wife were able to conceive a child at their age; were able to challenge the thinking of the world even in your life what God says will happen will happen Maybe you have been cursed and maybe the world has ruled you out but with God nothing and absolutely nothing is impossible. This only happens to those who trust in the Lord, thos who put their faith in Him.
May the Lord help you so you can start to believe in Him and believe that everything is possible with God.
