“Holy Communion Service ” by Rev Samuel Mametsa, Sunday Service, the 08th July 2012.
Rev Samuel Mametsa preaching whilst Mr Mboneni Rathiyaya is interpreting.
Scripture reading: 1 Corinthians 11: 23
“23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 1 Cor 11:23-24, NKJV.
Jesus Christ was instructing His disciples, saying my body is broken for you. When Jesus says His body was broken for us it means that His body was broken into pieces and that when we partake of His body then some of you are eating the hand, some the eye, some the leg etc but all are partaking of the same body.
1 Cor 11:25 “25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."” NKJV. In other words when you drink the blood of Jesus, His life is in the blood and therefore you are drinking His blood.
The bible says in Leviticus 17:11 “11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.'” Lev 17:11, NKJV.
That is why God instructed Moses to tell the children of Israel not to drink blood as there is life in the blood. If you can drink the blood of a human being, you are drinking the blood of a sinner and the blood of that sinner will want to operate in your life. The life of that sinner will want to operate in your life together with your life and that is madness. How can two people operate from one body or how can the life of a human being operate alongside the life of a goat or sheep?
When you drink the blood of Jesus you drink His blood and if the blood in your body is not normal, when you partake of it, His blood will everything in you, well. It is good to drink the blood of Christ but not the blood of people or animals.
That is why I say in situation where there has been an accident and a person has lost a lot of blood, and the doctor says that that person is going to die because of lack of blood “No, the blood of Jesus Christ runs in that blood and that person has enough blood and cannot die because of lack of blood.” If you partake of Holy Communion and you lose blood, the devil cannot suck your blood. He cannot suck the blood of the children of God.
1 Cor 11:26 “26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.” NKJV.
When you partake of the Holy Communion, you are saying “I know that my Jesus is coming back!’ You are saying “One day my God will judge the world!” that is why Paul says “You do it in remembrance of Jesus”. When you partake of the blood and the body You are saying “Jesus will come back!”
1 Cor 11:27 “27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.” NKJV.
We are not allowed to partake of the Holy Communion with grudges in our hearts, unforgiveness in our hearts etc
Psalm 15: 1-5 “1 Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? 2 He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; 3 He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend; 4 In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honors those who fear the Lord; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change; 5 He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.” Psalm 15: 1-5, NKJV.
David had a problem after he had observed the people of this world, even the ones that appeared well of, none of them seemed to be living a life that is right with God and He asked Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
To dwell in His secret place you need, amongst others, to partake of the Holy Communion. Verse 2 says the righteous shall make it, those who speak the truth with their hearts, not only with their mouths.
Sometimes we tell the truth with our mouths but not from the hearts. The bible says those who speak the truth in their hearts are the ones who will enter the kingdom of God. It is not a matter of people who swear to tell the truth and then tell lies. Not those who say one thing with their mouth and another with their hearts.
We have great pretenders in church and in this world. A lot of people are in jail because of false evidence. They are not ashamed and they go to court and say “God help me”, whilst knowing you will lie.
The bible says those who speak the truth in their hearts. They can keep quiet but in their hearts they know the truth and they tell the truth.
You can’t partake of the Holy Communion without something happening in your body or your life. The blood and the body of Christ cannot share your body with sicknesses and diseases etc that is why you must be worthy to partake of the Holy Communion.
That is why it is called a Holy Communion. Holy + Communion. It is for a communal purpose. Jesus taught the disciples humility, the reason He did it was so that they could defeat pride. Holy Communion makes us humble. Jesus Christ even went to the point of washing their feet. That is why the Jews could not identify who Jesus was amongst them. They had to ask Judas Iscariot to help them so they could identify Him. They had a problem of how to arrest Him. There was no pride in him because He treated Himself as an equal to the rest of the disciples. They asked themselves “How will we identify Him out of the 13? How will we identify Jesus when we arrive?” The said to each other, “Let’s get one of the disciples from this group.” That is why in the church today, people are selling each other. They went to Judas Iscariot, “Please sell him to us, we can give you whatever money you want.” Today, Christians are selling each other.
When Judas Iscariot saw the money, he thought to himself “I am rich”, by selling the Son of the Living God. He forgot that His life was in the one whom he was selling. Today people are selling their neighbours not knowing they are selling the person who praying for them.
When Judas Iscariot hugged Jesus it was a dangerous hug, there are dangerous hugs in this life, hugs for selling your life.
Jesus Christ saw what was in the heart of Judas Iscariot and said “You sell the son of man with a hug?”
Jesus knew the heart of Judas Iscariot. When Judas Iscariot was approaching Him for the hug he could have said to Judas Iscariot “Don’t touch me!” but He just asked “"Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" See Luke 22:48, NKJV. Even when He appointed Peter as a disciple, He knew that Peter would one day betray Him.
Ask your heart, “Am I betraying somebody in my church, in my life? What I am carrying in my heart, is it worthy of partaking of the Holy Communion?”
1 Cor 11:28 “28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” NKJV.
Test yourself and ask yourself “Am I worthy of the blood of Jesus” Remember your partaking of the blood doesn’t mean we are prefect of that we don’t have any spot but is your heart after the heart of God or to betray Him, His people?
Don’t hold somebody in your heart in unforgiveness as that person will stand in the way of your blessings.
1 Cor 11:29-30 “29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.”
NKJV.
Why? Because you take Holy Communion as a law. We don’t take Holy Communion as a law; we take it in the form of repentance. Before you partake of it, you must repent. Why? Since this morning your tongue may have sinned and with that very same tongue you came and worshipped God in church. If there is anybody that has offended you, release them, forgive them.
Christians are so dangerous, they will say, “I will never forgive him or her” and you are talking about somebody who is also partaking of the Holy Communion. Who do you think you are? We are saved by His grace. If he had said “No! I can’t forgive so and so” referring to you, who are you? We have no reason not to forgive each other. Whether that person killed your whole family or did any other bad thing to you.
Go before God and ask for forgiveness “God you know my secret sin.” Ps 15:1-3 “Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? 2 He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; 3 He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;” Ps 15:1-3, NKJV.
We heard the testimony of a lady who was betrayed at work they wanted her to be chased from work and they set her up. She had to undergo a polygraph test. Polygraph test works through the heart; it goes to the heart and detects what is in your heart. The truth is in the heart and when you are not telling the truth, the heart pulse will go fast and push the pressure of the blood and they will know that you are lying.
