Scripture reading: Joshua 1:1-2 NKJV
“1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' assistant, saying: 2 "Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them — the children of Israel.”
The pastor of this church has been given the assignment by God to shepherd us. The duty of a shepherd of God is to make sure that the sheep must not get lost or die. We must extend our territory. If you are a shepherd and you see that your sheep are increasing then you must extend the kraal so that all the sheep may fit. What does the scripture say to us? What would you do if you were facing this challenge? God sent Joshua to go and lead the people of Israel after Moses died. Jesus`s physical body is no longer with us but He left us with His spirit which is the Holy Spirit.
What is your Jordan in your life, what makes you not to be faithful to God? It is the power of darkness and it is possible for you to defeat Satan. When you read further in that scripture of Joshua it is said that everywhere you set your feet I will bless you. God further promised that He will always be us. What does that mean? It means that the grace of God is always covering us and is always shielding us. Whenever you are faced with difficulties you don’t need to worry because you are covered by the grace of God. What happens when the grace is gone? When you run away from the grace of God it means you are no longer covered by the grace and by doing so you will experience difficulties and you will be defeated. The bible says when it goes further that you should not depart from the word of God because by doing so you are running from the grace.
If a shepherd is trying to lead the sheep into the kraal and they are not obeying he will use something to frighten them but not to hurt them. When some people are facing challenges they feel discouraged and stop attending church.
When we attend churches it does not mean that witches and wizard will not get us, it does not mean that we won’t fail at school or face challenges but God is saying that we should stand firm and be courageous. One of the reasons Moses was not able to cross river Jordan was because he was a coward and he sent spies over the land. Why are people feeling lazy or discouraged to do what God want them to do? If you have been sent by God don’t be a coward.
When we are here God has given us so many talents. So we must not be like that fig tree. When Jesus was hungry he went to that big fig tree because according to Jesus that fig tree was supposed to give him figs but it didn’t give him the figs. What God has given you, use it to benefit his name.
When you are in school you cannot expect to get into the next grade without writing the exam of the lower grade and passing them. Sometimes when you are facing challenges understand that God want to manifest Himself.
There is a certain story that I watched of two men who were rich through human blood. One day a time came when that man decided to kill his grandmother and took the grandma`s heart to the sangoma. And his granny was always appearing to him every night and he couldn’t even sleep. Then as time goes on the witch doctor wanted another two hearts of young boys and he then wanted to repeat what he did to his granny then he used a certain stick from a friend of his and that made the boys to look like bananas so that he can be able to transport them easily without being arrested but unfortunately he was arrested at a roadblock.
What am trying to tell you is that there a certain people today who are chasing after miracles. There are people who are changing church after church because they are looking for wealth and they are searching for miracles. God`s promises are: every place that your foot will step, I will give you, I shall be with you every day of your life.
Mark 16:17-18: “17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
