“The Foundation” by Mr Mboneni Rathiyaya, Friday Service, the 18th of May 2012.
Offering: Pastor Helen Raboshakga - Exodus 23:25, “25 "So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.” Ex 23:25, NKJV.
“The Foundation” by Mr Mboneni Rathiyaya, Friday Service, the 18thof May 2012.
Message Scripture reading: Matthew 16:13-18: Matthew 6:30-33, 1 Thessalonians 5:18;
“13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" 14 So they said,"Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered and said,"You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17 Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Matt 16:13-18, NKJV.
“30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matt 6:30-33, NKJV.
1 Thess 5:8 “8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.”1 Thess 5:8, NKJV.
In Matthew 16 Jesus Christ said to His disciples “Yes, I understand what people are saying about me, but who do you say I am?” When Peter responded Jesus said to Him “Peter, you are the rock, and on this rock I will build my church.”
Jesus said to him “Peter, you are a rock and upon this rock, I will build my church.” God is looking for people here in Basani, who can become the rock. He is not looking for anyone but people who know Him. That is why Jesus said, “Who do you say I am?” He wants people who know Him.
We attend church every Sunday but do we know Him, do we know the master, the one who has the power? Who do you say He is? Peter says “You are the Christ, the son of the living God.” Jesus is looking for people who know Him, people who don’t come to church because it is a Sunday. He is looking for people who can become the foundation of the church here in Basani.
He is looking for people who know Him.
When we build our houses we start with the foundation. You want a foundation that is solid. Jesus Christ is looking for a foundation that is solid. Even if you drive over it with a car, it will remain there. God is looking for people that can become the rock of this church. People who will not run away because they have been run over, because they have been trampled over, because they have been stamped upon over and over again. He is looking for the rock. Who do you say I am? Only Peter said “Yes, you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus says this has not been revealed to you by man but by God.
God is looking for the rocks tonight. God is looking for the rock in you. Not a committee member or a member of the church. Start with the foundation. We must tell him who He is. When He says “I am looking for the foundation, for rocks, for pillars.”, then we must stand up and say “Lord, look no further, here I am!”
A wrong foundation will make the church to fall apart! e.g. a foundation of gossip, strife and contention etc. A cracked foundation without concrete.
Are you a foundation of God’s church? If you are not, then what are you? God needs a solid foundation.
Where I come from, we use pit toilets and when you dig the ground when the digging the toilet, you will find different types of rocks. There are some rocks, if you walk on them and smash them they disappear. This is not the rock that God is looking for. God is looking for a rock that will stand in the rain, day in day out.
We use some of the rocks to build our fences, because you are looking for protection. God is looking for a rock on top of which He can build His church. You have been in church a long time, you have been a committee member but are you a rock in the church?
When we build we start with a foundation, then we set up the pillars. The pillar holds the structure intact and then the people inside will be safe. You must be the pillar of the church where you attend. When you are there that church must not fall. The pillar is set up and rooted into the foundation.
The problem we have as Christians is that when we get saved the only thing we think of is ourselves and the only time we go to Him is when we have problems. That is why Jesus will ask “Who do you say I am?”
“You are the rock and upon this rock, I will build my church.” Can God consider you as the rock, the pillar upon which He can build his church? Maybe you are saying to God, Yes I have been a church member so far but I didn’t know that I have to be a rock and pillar of the church. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can still be a rock and foundation of the church.
Some people may be saying in their minds: you say as Christians we are selfish. If you are a Christian and the first thing you pray for is you, then you must change.
When Paul and Silas were in prison, they worshipped Him. If we know who God is, we will not pray for food, money for petrol etc we will say “Father, I thank you for this situation!”
A foundation does not complain, even if you drive over it with your car, even if you bring a heavy vehicle to drive over it again and again. The foundation will never complain. Have you ever heard your church foundation saying “I am tired, you are too heavy! Enough is enough!” Sometimes we don’t even clean it, and still it doesn’t complain. When you say to God “I am prepared to be a foundation”, compare yourself to a foundation. You must not say “For how many years, have I been carrying people and they don’t care?” A foundation doesn’t complain, all it does is carry the weight! Are you prepared to be a foundation?
You and I are no longer going to pray that we don’t have food in our houses. The bible says be thankful in all situations. It doesn’t matter what situation you come across. There are things that God will allow to happen in your life and when you start complaining it shows Him that you don’t know who He is. When you know Him you know that He will allow certain things to happen to you.
It is not necessary for you and me to be praying for ourselves. God knows what we need. See Matthew 6:30-33 above.
You can look at this church and say “It is not even plastered, it so dusty.” You look at yourself, your very nice and expensive suit and shoes and you look at the church and you say “I can’t go there!”
The bible says don’t worry and say “What shall we wear, eat etc”. All you need to worry about is knowing the kingdom of God. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. That is why he asked the disciples “You disciples who do you say I am?” Do you know who He is in your life?
Verse 32 says: for the pagans run after all these things. He says do not worry about this. He says your heavenly Father, knows that you need them. So you don’t need to remind Him. All you need to do is to continue to worship Him, continue to remind Him who He is. He knows you need money in your house. He knows that you need it.
If the pastor says go to this and that place, don’t say “Where will I get the money? Just say, I am prepared to serve the kingdom of God.” When you have sought the kingdom of God first, you are not gonna need anything, you will not ask for things, things will come to you because God owns all these things. You are the foundation of the church.
