MESSAGE FOR THE DAY
“Need to be Accountable” by Pastor Matamela Joyce Lishivha , 04 May 2012.
Are you responsible in your church, do you have responsibility in your church on behalf of your church?
One time in the bible, the people asked why is it that your disciples don’t fast and He said to them, “I am here with them and they don’t need to fast.” They were walking in the complete presence of the Lord. If we want to be accountable, we need to walk in the presence of the Lord continually.
Jesus Christ left us with a representative who can help us, so that for e.g. if we can’t fast He can help us. Our Helper is the Holy Spirit and we must listen to Him.
Fasting helps us to get our breakthroughs. If we fail to fast we may miss our breakthroughs.
The disciples asked Him “Why are we not able to cast these spirits?” He said “Some of these spirits need you to be fasting”. This means we need deliverance. As we are here, we need deliverance and for that to happen it is not only the responsibility of the man of God to fast for us. You need to take responsibility for your deliverance. We are becoming a stumbling block for the men of God to work effectively. The man of God goes for a long fast to pray for us and leaves us eating and them still when he comes back we refuse to fast. This may result in the man of God praying for us for many times with no help coming forth.
If I need deliverance I need to be responsible for my own breakthrough through the man of God.
Jesus Christ said secrecy is the ideal breeding ground for deception. If you and I are secretive, we are breeding deception.
I am deceiving myself if I know that for my breakthrough to come, I must do this and that and I don’t do it.
When we continue to sin we are crucifying Jesus Christ all over again. If we continue to do things in secret, it aggravates our sins, in my mind I will think “Nobody saw me.”
Sometimes food can be a stumbling block, especially when you know that you need to fast in order to get your breakthrough and then get tempted and break your vows to God. You agree to something and do not take ownership of it. You are wrong before the Lord. If we have agreed with God, “I and going on a fast in respect of such and such”, this is exactly what I need to do.
Jesus Christ spoke of a parable about one person who agreed to do something and then did not do it and about the one who said “I will not do it” and did it. If we agree that we will fast but do not fast, we are like the one who agreed he will do it but did not do it.
1 John 1: 7 “7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7, NKJV.
To be responsible we need to walk in the light and be transparent. If we are transparent we are able to respond as we know that we have done something in the light. If we walk in the darkness, we start to wonder, “Who could have seen me?” Let’s us not be foolish. Because the God we worship can see all that we do in the dark such that even if we lie we are deceiving ourselves.
Why deceive ourselves, when we know that there are things in the dark that we are doing. The more we are doing it in the darkness; the more we are enslaving ourselves more and more into the dark. To get to the glory God has prepared for us, we need to walk in the light. We need to be transparent in everything that we do. Let’s agree to walk in the light.
Proverbs 12:15 “15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise.” Prov 12:15, NKJV.
In order for a king to be accountable to the people he must have advisors. If the king feels he doesn’t need them, he is foolish and will make blunders.
We are members of the church, and as such we must help each other. If there is anybody who does not need the help of others, that person is a fool. For me not to be a fool I must take the advise of others. When we advise each other, there are things that will help others and there are things that will need to be corrected. We must allow our advisors to correct us.
For us to be released from our sins, we need to take the advise of others. When I take responsibility I take full responsibility which comes from different ideas and different advisors. We have Christians who have backslidden, why is this? They had problems and they wanted to handle those problems on their own, and those problems aggravated and became worse and worse and dragged them down. If you have a problem, share it with somebody. When you share it with somebody you are becoming responsible. Then you will realise that your problem may be much lighter than what others are facing.
When you received Jesus Christ you became a new creation and the old passed away. Note that when it happened the enemy was very angry and has been planning on how to get you back. He will ask you “You, you will never partake of sin? Are you sure you will leave brandy forever, not even a tot?” Then you start to slide back and you think “If I can tell somebody they will think I am funny.” You think that people will laugh at you.
When you leave the gate of the church the devil will say “Do you think you can leave that concubine of yours?” When you are still strong from the word that has just been preached you will say “Yes” and very strongly. He will then bring that lady, looking beautiful. Share with somebody who will help you.
The fight we are fighting is not ours and doesn’t need our muscles. It needs God in heaven above. Mary Magdalene was caught red handed and said to Jesus Christ “They want to stone me to death!” and they said “We have caught her in the middle of the adultery”. Jesus Christ said “If there is anyone amongst you, who has no sin, let them cast the first stone.” Not one of them stayed. People we are sinners and there are many things that we do in the dark. We need Jesus Christ’s intervention to intervene into these secrets.
Are you unable to pray? Is it because you know that there is something that you have done which is wrong but because you did it in the dark, you are unable to confess it? Tell Jesus so that you can start praying, fasting, and say my Father, “I have sinned before you and now I am unable to pray.” “My husband doesn’t even know that I am a witch who flies at night. This witchcraft spirit is bothering me, when others are busy praying at night I am out flying.”
Does your work involve money? When you look at this money, you can’t let it be, you always take some. Do you think you can pray and fast with that kind of secret? Let us forsake these secrets. When we have secrets, they pull us down and drag us back and as a result we are not transparent and not accountable to Jesus Christ. By this kind of conduct we are also “Yes the blood of Jesus Christ was shed but we don’t care.”
We need to be concerned about the blood that was shed. God knew that on our own we can’t do it. That is why God brought Jesus Christ and said “Call upon me and I will show great and mysterious things which you have never seen before.”
The person who you must account to be must be mature and a person who respects confidentiality.
When we share our secrets or problems we can’t just tell anybody. People who are accountable will pray and say “God, give me a friend in this church who is accountable to you” and God will give you that person. That person will also be accountable for your life before God. You need somebody who is fully matured who knows the word of God, who knows that whatever we share he will refer to the word of God. As a Christian you are not supposed to say or live unscriptural things otherwise you are not living as a child of God. If you have a true friend from God, God will give you a true friend as He will have seen that you want a true friend in God who will help you to walk in God.
Let us not be like King Rehoboam who when the elders came to Him to say “Your father’s yoke upon us was too heavy” He failed to listen to the mature and wise advisors. He rejected their advise and went for the advise of people of his own age, his peer group. He said to the people “If you think my father’s yoke was heavy, my yoke will be much much heavier.” If you are young and you have a conflict with an elder person and you do not go to the elders to ask for advise you will God astray. If you go to your peers they will say “You should have done worse things than that to this person”. This will mean you did not want the true and good advise. True advise comes from the matured in Christ. Those who are always reading the word of God and praying. When they give you advise they will refer you to what the word of God is saying.
Let’s seek advise from the right people then we will be accountable people.
The story about King Rehoboam is found 1 Kings 12:8 “But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.” 1 Kings 12:8, NKJV.
Those boys who were his peers gave him the wrong advise. When we get wrong advise, it starts the wrong fire in our lives. This caused a rebellion in Israel and the people said “We don’t want to hear anything from the branch of David.” Those who had run from King Rehoboam went to Jeroboam and said we want you to be our king.
If King Rehoboam had listened to the advise of the matured people there would not have been any rebellion. The elders knew the previous problem of the nation and would have advised him properly. We need to be accountable. For us to be accountable we must study the word of God.
Paul says to Timothy “Study the word and understand it so that you can live.” If you are living in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, then you must live according to the word of God. Wherever we are we must be in the image of the kingdom of God. Let us make sure that whatever we do is aligned to the kingdom of God. We have been called to be representatives of the kingdom of God. This also means that we can mentor the next generation properly.
King Rehoboam took the advise of his peers.
Have you seen an old lady who is a Christian? When there is new born baby in the family she can’t advise your daughter-in-law to go for sangomas.
There is a great God in Israel who is responsible and accountable for our lives that is why He brought Jesus so we can have life and life in abundance.
When you listen to people who are accountable it takes you somewhere. You learn something.
When we are committed unto the Lord He will reveal all the secrets and hidden things.
Hebrews 12: 1 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” Heb 12:1, NKJV.
We are witnesses of the true life of God, what stops us from imitating this life of Jesus Christ? Let us persevere and do that which God wants us to do, let us endure, so that we can arrive to the life that Christ wants for us. Christ wants us to be accountable and forsake our sins and do that which pleases the Lord. Let us help one another to get to where God wants us to. When the one falls, let us take responsibility for the person so that they can come back to Jesus Christ and so that the body of Christ can be complete.
I know somebody who had backslidden; I had given up and was trying to forget about the person. The Holy Spirit said to me “No, you can’t”. Let’s be united and take responsibility and talk to the people “Jesus Christ needs you, we are no longer complete in the house of God. When you are not there we are missing a part of us.”
Scripture reading: Haggai 2:7-9 “7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,' says the Lord of hosts. 8 'The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,' says the Lord of hosts. 9 'The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,' says the Lord of hosts. 1 Peter 3:8 “8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;” 1 peter 3:8, NKJV.
God give us a spirit of unity; help us to take care of each other as you are taking care of us.
06. Pride
Galatians 6:14 “14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Gal 6:14, NKJV.
Help me to humble myself, teach me to be humble so that I can respect you. Remove the spirit of pride in me in Jesus’ name.
07. teachable Spirit
Psalm 32:8 “8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” Ps 32:8, NKJV.
God, grant me a teachable spirit to be to be obedient to your word in Jesus’ name.
08. Our enemies
Give me the spirit of love to love those who hate, not to hate them, vengeance is yours to repay.
09. Stubbornness
Isaiah 63:10b “10 But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; So He turned Himself against them as an enemy, And He fought against them.” Isa 63:10, NKJV.
If we are stubborn we will be stubborn even to God, our pastors, our church leaders etc. When we disobey them we also disobey the Lord. We will hinder our blessings. Father, give us a s spirit of gentleness and remove the spirit of stubbornness.
10. Humility
2 Corinthians 13:11b “11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.” 2 Cor 13:11, NKJV.
God give us a spirit of humility, we want to humble ourselves before you and before all the people in Jesus’ name.
11. Our children
Psalm 127:3 “3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.” Ps 127:3, NKJV.
We must teach our children to fear Him. Otherwise they will blame us tomorrow when things don’t go well with them and say “My mom / dad did not teach me the right things otherwise I will not be in this mess.”
Help us to nurture the children you have given us. Give us the spirit of wisdom to teach them, to honour, to fear You in Jesus’ name.
12. Basani Crusade 17 to 19 May 2012
We must start praying for that crusade now; take responsibility to pray for the lost souls now. You can even fast and pray for them so that they will be delivered into the kingdom of God.
13. Baptism Session for 05 May 2012
Lets’ pray for those who are still hesitating to be baptised. Let’s pray for them in Jesus’ name.
14. Holy Communion Service 06 May 2012
We must prepare for our Holy Communion service session.
15. Building Project
Let’s pray in respect of this project. We need to take responsibility for this project as the members of this church.
16. Church Leaders
We need to help the church leaders who are helping our spiritual father, in the church irrespective of your qualifications and their educational status. We must respect our leaders so that they may work well and do their work without any grief.
17. Spirit of Jealousy
God doesn’t want this spirit. If you have this spirit you will not inherit the kingdom of God. Help to do away with this spirit, and to not be jealous of my brothers and sisters.
18. Respect for our families
Those who are married must not look down on the single parents. Let’s not undermine them. A wife who earns more than her husband must not disrespect the husband but respect him. To respect our children.
19. Praying for Our Spirit Father, his wife and his children
God continue to bless them and make them a God fearing family. We must pray for our spiritual father and his family.
20. Thank God for these Prayers
“Nothing but Unity” by Pastor Patrick Lishivha , 04 May 2012.
Ps P Lishivha preaching.
As Christians we have to be united. The cord that binds us as Christians is love.
The foundation of Christianity is nothing but love. If we serve the same God, then we know that we are on the same track and that what we do will please God.
The disciples came and said to “Jesus Christ we found another casting out demons in your name and we stopped him”. As long as we serve the same Lord we have must be united.
Whatever we do and say should please the Lord whether we do it in the light or in the dark. We must never be ashamed of our Lord and Saviour as Jesus Christ said “Whoever is ashamed to talk about me in the presence of the brethren I will also be ashamed to speak about him to My Father.”
When we show that we are united, the devil will send his messenger who will come to divide us. We are in a war. When a baby is born, the first thing that the baby does is cry, if the baby doesn’t cry it is presumed to be dead. We are not still born, we are alive and we are here to fight.
Our reward is in heaven. When we fight there are those who pretend to be our friends and sow discord amongst us. Just like Judas Iscariot who pretended to be with them but was not. Whoever is not with us is our enemy.
The bible says we should love our enemies. Loving our enemies means praying for them so that they can know the Lord and so that they should not perish. Let that person say “These people are aware that I am a wizard yet still they love me, let me change”.
We can pray all night long but if we are not united we are wasting our time.
What kills our unity? What can separate us if we are united? 1 Corinthians 1:10 “10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” 1 Cor 1:10, NKJV.
The Holy Spirit’s gives us different gifts. If we are united then the Holy Spirit will come down. When God sees our unity He will strengthen us. There should not be any divisions in the church. Children of God do not compete but complement each other and when we complement one another, the Holy Spirit will strengthen us and make us stronger. Unity is power and when we have the power we will win the battle.
Our life on earth is characterized by war. When you fall you must stand up again and continue just like a baby who is growing and learning to walk, will fall now and but still stand up and continues to learn to walk. We must ask God “God, give me the grace to live according to the way you want me to live.”
“I made you a prophet before you were formed in your mother’s womb I knew. Before then, I knew you.” Each and every one of us has a predestined path that God has planned for us and as long as we are on this path, there is provision and there is protection, there is unity between us and God. When we divert from God’s plan, we are on a path but not the path of God, protection is gone, unity with God is gone, unity with the brethren is gone. Maybe you will have unity with others who like you have left their God-ordained paths. We are given gifts differently and when we are given gifts let’s use them for benefit of the kingdom of God.
United we stand, divided we fall. The kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.
Think about one person you hate the most. Why do you hate them? When we pray we say “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”. It means we are praying without understanding. How can we love God when we cannot love our brethren? If you have something bothering you, go and solve it first so that God can hear you.
People complain “I been praying and praying but there is no response.”
Unity is the power. One God, One Christ, One Holy Spirit, One Father, one baptism in one faith. Everything must be one.
Those who will baptised will become new creations. The new creation after baptism is united with Christ. People will remind you of your past sins. We do not have to entertain this.
This person you hate the most: I don’t know who that person is, as long as you have somebody that you hate the most, that hatred makes God not to hear your prayer. You will pray until you are blue in the face but you will be wasting your time. How can you love God that you cannot see but hate somebody that you can see every day? When you meet this person you can even suffer a heart attack. We are all created in the image of God and if you see somebody and see an enemy you are making the image of God your enemy. How can you hate God’s image and have unity with God?
Love your neighbour as you love yourself. In the Old Testament we have Ten Commandments and when Jesus Christ came they asked Him questions trying to test Him and He just said “Love your neighbour as you love yourself.” If you love your neighbour as you love yourself then you won’t covet your neighbour’s son, husband, wife etc
When Paul wrote this scripture he had seen divisions in the church. Those who were blessed of God, always came together and the less blessed had their own group. But we belong to one church, why should there be divisions amongst us when we belong to one church, one Christ. We are there to complement each other not to compete.
If you belong to any group in this church, this morning is your morning to say “I don’t belong to anybody but to Christ.” If you belong to Christ then you are in the right place.
There are people who pray and never quote any single word from the bible, it is like a Venda person going to China and there speaking in Venda.
Ephesians 4:3-6 “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Eph 4:3-6, NKJV.
If there is no unity which God are we praying? For us to do this we must be united. We aren’t talking halves here, “one = united”, not zero, “one = united”.
We serve one God under one faith. There must be unity.
After all this, do you see there is no reason why you should hate anybody? If you still think so, then you have a reason to hate God and therefore why waste your time? If you are like that then you are an agent of darkness, you may just be a junior agent.
When you see the next person, see the image of God. If somebody offends you, and you get angry with them then you have no peace in you. You will never get peace anywhere but in Christ.
When there is no peace and you meet the person you hate (and in most cases that person doesn’t know it), then you will become very ugly on your face. Let’s go to the peace maker. One peace, from the peace maker, Jesus Christ. Let’s all go to Him.
James 4:1 and James 3:14-16.
James 4:1 “Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?” NKJV.
James 3:14-16 “14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.” NKJV.
Is it because I am fending for myself, I want to be seen to be better than others? We are members of one body. If you are the right hand, I am the left hand.
One time the members of the body rebelled against the stomach and said we can’t feed this lazy stomach. The hands, the eyes etc all rebelled and said “The stomach must see its way out”. Then hunger set in, the other members were now no longer functioning properly. Now they wanted the stomach to eat so they can all get energy. All the members then agreed that we need to feed the stomach and then there was unity again in the body. We are incomplete if there is a member missing. Then you are crippled. 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Eph 4:3-6, NKJV.
When we are united we will not have any strife or contentions. We will be able to correct each other without any hassles. There must be unity in Jesus Christ.
If you are full of hatred this is the number one weapon the devil uses in and against your life. When you get angry you open the door for the evil one to enter your life, to put you aside with no fellowship with your brothers and sisters.
The foundation of Christianity is nothing but love. If we serve the same God, then we know that we are on the same track and that what we do will please God.
