“Jesus is never late” by Rev Samuel Mametsa 08th January 2012
Scripture reading John 11: 17-34: “22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask." 23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." 24 Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." 25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" 27 "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world." 28 And after she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. "The Teacher is here," she said, "and is asking for you." 29 When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him. 30 Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met him. 31 When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there. 32 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died." 33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. 34 "Where have you laid him?" he asked. "Come and see, Lord," they replied.” NIV.
The bible says that Jesus Christ is never late. Martha and Maria called Jesus because they had faith in Him. Their brother Lazarus was sick and he finally passed away before Jesus came to see or pray for him. Lazarus died and was buried. Jesus delayed to go there on purpose because He knew that their faith would not last. He wanted to prove to them that He is never late.
Jesus told His disciples that they must wait for four days. He wanted to know that He is the “life” and that he is never late and that He is always on time. His disciples were worried and they knew that Jesus loves Lazarus a lot but then the message came that Lazarus had died. The disciples asked Jesus why He was late. Jesus is aware of our situations and He has never been late.
After 4 days Jesus went to Bethany after they had buried Lazarus. He wanted them to cry and bury Lazarus first. Even if you have cried about your situation for a long time it doesn’t mean that Jesus is late. He is never late. He will reward us for all the tears we have shared by lots of laughter. Jesus will wipe out our tears with blessings.
Jesus told He disciples to go with Him to see Lazarus after 4 days. When they arrived they found people still mourning Lazarus. Jesus loved Bethany as He would often visit Bethany to visit Lazarus and his family. He used to minister in their house. The Jews there did not believer His teachings. Some came to attend the meetings so they could gossip. Some had now come to the funeral nd the mourning to ask: “Where what their Jesus” “Why did their Jesus
not save Lazarus?”
There may be people in your life who gossip about you. Tell then that my Jesus is never late and that He will come at His appropriate time and season. The devil knew when Jesus went to Bethany and he also sent his people to see what was happening there. As it is now, the devil knows about our destinies and if we do not pray enough he will steal, kill and destroy our destinies. Some of the Jews came to blaspheme Jesus.
When Jesus arrived Mary and Martha were indoors because they did not want to face the people. Jesus sent for Mary and Mary ran to Jesus and asked Him ‘Where were you? If you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
Martha had lost her faith but Jesus told her that Lazarus was not dead but alive.
If we believe in Jesus, we will live even when we die. Martha ran to Mary and told her that the master was around. Jesus wept not because Lazarus was dead but because the people he knew had faith had lost their faith. When we lose our faith we make Jesus to weep and cry. We must lose our faith. Irrespective of our situations, Jesus wants us to have faith. Crying can either be your sicknesses, disease, sin before God.
For a season, God may allow the devil to torment and to make you cry but when the time comes He will lift you up and you will walk all over the devil.
Jesus expects us to be humle just like He was. He humbled Himself to the point of death. When we are humnble it is God who will promote us. We need to take off and stirp ourselves naked of all the pride.
